Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue, Tinto Wine Burst

A 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue with a limited edition Mediterranean Wine Collection finish and gold hardware

The 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue from Gibson Custom is as close as you can get to a factory-fresh 1959 Les Paul Standard. These exceptional guitars are faithful recreations of some of the most desirable and valuable vintage guitars ever made. The result of decades of work and careful study of original models by the expert luthiers and craftspeople of the Gibson Custom Shop, they feature laser-scanned dimensions and chemically recreated plastics, and every element is rendered in unbelievable detail in a quest to build the most historically authentic recreations possible. They’re not just tributes to those priceless original models—they’re clones of them. Now, Gibson Custom is very proud to introduce the Mediterranean Wine Collection. These limited edition guitars are brought to you courtesy of Gibson Custom Select, which produces guitars with hand-selected finishes, unique hardware, and other features that set them apart from our standard Gibson Custom models.

The original “Bursts” were manufactured from 1958 until 1960, and fewer than two thousand were ever made, with the models from 1959 being the most highly favored by vintage guitar aficionados. While Bursts were not hugely successful in their initial three-year run, that soon changed when players like Mike Bloomfield, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Jeff Beck began using them in the mid-60s, after which their popularity soared and has remained strong ever since.

The Gibson Custom Select Mediterranean Wine Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissues start with our acclaimed 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue models and enhances them with three wine-inspired limited edition colors that are tastefully accented with gold hardware. Each one of the guitars in the Mediterranean Wine Collection features a one-piece, lightweight mahogany body paired with an exquisitely beautiful, hand-selected two-piece AAA flame maple top. Like a fingerprint, each top is unique and one of a kind. The mahogany necks are capped with Indian rosewood fretboards with 22 Historic medium jumbo frets and adorned with cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays. They feature a comfortable 50s Rounded Medium C profile that fills the hand without being excessively large or clubby. The fingerboard edges are hand-rolled to give them a vintage-like, played-in feel.

The pickups and electronics remain the same as on our regular 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissues, with unpotted Custombucker pickups with Alnico 3 magnets that are based on the famous Patent Applied For humbucker™ pickups that are nearly as highly prized as those rare vintage guitars themselves. The Custombuckers are paired with CTS® potentiometers and paper-in-oil capacitors. The hardware also remains vintage-spec, but in the place of the usual nickel hardware, the Mediterranean Wine Collection substitutes gold-plated hardware, including the ABR-1 bridge, lightweight Stop Bar tailpiece, and Kluson® tuners. This beautifully complements and accents the three exclusive finishes in the Mediterranean Wine Collection – Bianco Wine Burst, Rosé Wine Burst, and Tinto Wine Burst. To complete the package and offer a vintage-inspired, limited-edition ownership experience, we include a vintage-style brown and pink Lifton five-latch case, along with a certificate of authenticity. This exclusive Custom Select Mediterranean Wine Collection was created to celebrate the uniqueness of Mediterranean wine and musical culture, and this run is limited to only ten guitars in each color, so act fast and get your favorite while you still can!
