Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue, VOS, Green Sparkle

1960 Junior in Green Sparkle

This Gibson Custom Select 1960 Les Paul™ Junior Reissue features a custom Green Sparkle finish, which brings a splash of color to an otherwise understated model. Gibson Custom Select offers unique specifications that can include custom finishes, handpicked electronics, unique hardware, and even special exotic tonewoods. Based on standard production models with customized features, these unique guitars are designed by Gibson’s experts. These guitars are made in small batches by the skilled artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee.

From 1958 to 1960, the Les Paul Junior and Les Paul Special adopted a double cutaway design. This was a departure from the single-cut design produced from 1954 to 1957. The construction and stripped-down ethos of the model remained the same, but with a body shape that differentiated itself from the Les Paul Standard and Les Paul Custom. While this stripped-down model was originally intended for student-level players, it was adopted by professional-level players in the 1960s.

The key difference between the Junior and the Standard is the body construction. The Les Paul Standard features a carved maple top glued onto a mahogany body, while the Les Paul Junior features a slab mahogany body. Other key design differences include a single Dogear P-90 pickup in the bridge position and a wraparound bridge. This minimalist approach creates a unique playing experience that players of all skill levels love.

The key feature of this Gibson Custom Select 1960 Les Paul Junior Reissue is the Green Sparkle finish. There are three levels of sparkle finishes available through Gibson Custom, including light, medium, and heavy coverage. The size of the sparkle remains the same across all three options, but the amount of sparkle is increased with each level. This Gibson Custom Select 1960 Les Paul Junior Reissue features heavy sparkle coverage.

Another key feature of this guitar is the 1960 V2 neck profile, which is based on vintage neck profiles from early 1960, when neck profiles began to be slightly slimmed down from the 1959 profile. The profile of the neck is very similar to a typical 1959 neck profile, but with less material and smaller shoulders around the edge of the fretboard. The guitar is also given the VOS treatment, which most notably includes slightly aged hardware, including the bridge, bridge posts, tuning machines, and mounting screws.

The flash of color with the extra level of sparkle is a dramatic departure from the model’s stripped-down aesthetic. Typically seen in either Vintage Cherry or TV Yellow, this guitar is a dramatic departure from its pedestrian counterpart, adding a little bit of extra attitude to an already edgy model. Included with the guitar is a hardshell case and a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
