Gibson Custom 1960 Hummingbird Reissue, Ultra Light Aged, Washed Cherry Sunburst
Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged 1960 Hummingbird
This Gibson Custom Select 1960 Hummingbird™ features Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging, available only through Gibson Custom Select and Made to Measure. This 1960 Hummingbird is also available with or without an L.R. Baggs™ HiFi pickup system — a first for Gibson acoustic guitars featuring Murphy Lab aging. Each Gibson Custom Select guitar offers unique features that are not found on production models. These customizations can include special finishes, unique hardware, custom electronics, and much more. The premier features of this 1960 Hummingbird are Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging and the option for a pickup system.
The Gibson Hummingbird has a square-shoulder dreadnought design that entered the catalog in 1960. This guitar originally featured an adjustable saddle that allowed the player to adjust the height of the strings at the saddle, thereby changing the action. Over time, vintage Hummingbird guitars needed a new saddle or bridge, which were often modified to a more traditional fixed-saddle configuration. This bridge and saddle design gives the guitar more sustain and a sharper attack when playing. This classic design has been in the Gibson catalog since its introduction and has been beloved by singer-songwriters ever since.
This Gibson Custom Select 1960 Hummingbird has a thermally aged red spruce top that emulates the sound of a well-seasoned vintage instrument. This thermal aging process crystallizes the sugars in the wood, which makes the tonewood more resonant than a non-thermally aged piece of red spruce. This guitar comes with all the classic features of a standard production guitar, plus Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging, a custom feature only available from Gibson Custom Select and Made to Measure. This level of aging shows weather checking, without any of the dings or scratches that are found on the Light Aged and Heavy Aged levels. Another first for a Murphy Lab Aged Gibson acoustic is the inclusion of electronics. An L.R. Baggs HiFi system was chosen for this guitar as it features a non-invasive design with two extremely lightweight sensors applied to the bridge plate. This guitar is also available without a pickup system.
The Gibson Hummingbird is a consistent companion to those who want a classic guitar with a rich history of being played by legends over the past several decades. This special Hummingbird has a few features that are perfect for the modern player who wants the sound and feel of a vintage guitar, but in a brand-new instrument. Included with the guitar is a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity and a hardshell case.
